AVAILABILITY OF
ZERACIOUS PUPPIES
Zeracious only breed once or twice  a year. We seldom  have puppies available. However, Staffords are  a great passion of ours and we'd  love you to look at our dogs,  or to hear from you....

A WORD OF WARNING:

Take care from whom
you buy your Stafford.

Respectable breeders
have NO  need to pressurised buyers into making a rushed decision, or into making huge payments upfront to secure a pup - respectable breeders want their pups to go to homes where the family is completely ready and happy to receive it... do your homwork and THINK TWICE before you part with your money!

Breed Standards Compaired
by Griet Coetzer

  SBT AM STAFF
OTHER   The mastiff type is behind all the bull-type terriers. Also known as "Yanki Terriers" or "Pitbull Terriers". In 1940 AKC recognised the AmStaff. In 1975 the AmStaff was shown in America - very young breed. The UKC registered the Pitbull but AKC don't recognise it, because of it's killer instinct. Originates from USA.
GENERAL APPEARANCE Smooth coated, well balanced, of great strength for his size. Muscular, active and agile. Should give the impression of great strenght for his size, a well put-together dog, muscular, but agile and graceful. He should be stocky, not long-legged or racy in outline.  He must be fearless and alert, as if he is enjoying himself, not bored, fearful or sulky. A gentleman with a zest of life. He must appear capable of "taking charge" in an instant.
CHARACTERISTICS Traditionally of indomitable courage and tenacity.  Highly intelligent and affectionate especially with children. His courage is proverbial
TEMPERAMENT Bold, fearless and totally reliable. Keenly alive to his surroundings. His courage is proverbial.
HEAD & SKULL  Short, deep through with broad skull. Very pronounced cheek muscles, distinct stop, short foreface, nose black. 1/3 to 2/ ird's ratio. Medium in length. Cheek muscle not as pronounced as the Stafford's. Head medium length, deep through, broad skull, very pronounced cheek muscles, distinct stop. Muzzle medium length, rounded on upper side to fall away abruptly below eyes. Jaws well defined. Underjaw to be strong and have biting power. Lips close and even, no looseness. Nose definitely black, Dudley nose undesirable. Side on the mussle and skull should each make up 50% of the head.
EYES Dark preferred but may bear some relation to coat colour. Round of medium size and set to look straight ahead. Eye rims dark. Dark and round, low down in skull and set far apart. Light or pink eyes undesirable. No pink eyelids.
EARS Rose or half pricked, not large or heavy. Full, drop or pricked ears highly undesirable. Half rose (pricked) or Rose. Should be short and held half rose or prick. Set high. FULL DROP TO BE PENELISED. The breeders say it should be: uncropped ears should be short and held rose or half pricked.
MOUTH Lips tight and clean.  Jaws strong, teeth large, with a perfect, regular and complete scissor bite, i.e. upper teeth closely overlapping the lower teeth and set square to the jaws. Scissor bite. Under or overshot undesirable.
NECK Muscular, rather short, clean in outline gradually widening towards shoulders. Heavy, slightly arched, tapering from shoulders to back of skull. No looseness of skin. Medium length.
FOREQUARTERS Front feet turn out slightly. Legs straight and well boned, set rather wide apart, showing no weakness at the pasterns,  from which point feet turn out a little. Shoulders well laid back with no looseness at elbow. Front feet pointing dirrectly to front. Shoulders strong and muscular with blades wide and sloping. The front legs should be straight, large or round bones, pasterns upright. No resemblance of bend in front. Forelegs set rather wide apart to permit chest development. Well sprung ribs, deep in rear. All ribs close together. Chest deep and broad. Loins slightly tucked.
BODY Close coupled, with level topline, wide front, deep brisket, well sprung ribs, muscular and well defined.
HINDQUARTERS Well muscled, hocks well let down with stifles well bent.  Legs parallel when viewed from behind. Well muscled, let down at hocks, turning neither in nor out.
FEET Well padded, strong and of medium size. Nails black in solid coloured dogs. Of moderate size, well arched and compact.
TAIL Medium length, low set, tapering to a point and carried rather low.   Should not curl much and may be likened to an old fashioned pump handle. Short in comparison to size, low set, tapering to a fine point; not curled or held over back. Not docked. Tail too long or badly carried undesirable.
GAIT/MOVEMENT Free, powerful and agile with economy of effort. Legs moving parallel when viewed from front or rear. Discernible drive from hindlegs. Must be springy but without roll or pace.
COAT Smooth, short and close. Short, close, stiff to the touch and glossy.
